Receiving the Call (and phone call) to adopt a baby boy

In 2002, via a simple phone call, we learned about a perfect little baby boy who was born in April and whose birthmom wanted to place him for adoption.  Through this one simple phone call and quick question, God planted the seed that would later become our Call and ministry for His Kingdom.
When we received the phone call around 9 pm, I immediately said "YES," but I knew David needed to be on board -- he would, after all, be the child's father!  We spent almost the entire night discussing and praying about bringing this precious baby into our family.  By morning, we knew that this baby was meant for us and we could not say no to such a perfect Gift from God.  We had also chosen a name for our son:  Copeland Shane Barnett.  Copeland is after David's grandpa whom he adored and was very close to and Shane is after my brother who had passed away in May 2001.
Around 8:30 that morning, I called the attorney that would be handling the adoption and told him that we "WANTED THIS BABY!!"  He went over a few details with me and gathered information on us.  After 2 months of getting paperwork, background checks, a homestudy, and other requirements completed, we got to pick our son up and bring him home.  That was the first time we got to see our baby.  When I first laid eyes on Copeland, he was asleep in his carseat.  I gently got him out of his carseat and wrapped him in my arms.  Copeland immediately opened his eyes and looked up at me.  I was speechless and couldn't stop crying tears of joy.  My sweet baby boy reached his hand up and touched my face, smiled really big, nestled in my arms, and went right back to sleep.  God had blessed us with the most beautiful baby and had immediately given Copeland a peace about his mommy and daddy.
This whole time, David stood next to me and was silently crying.  He literally could not talk.  I finally asked him if he wanted to hold Cope and he just shook his head no.  David later told me that he was so overwhelmed with joy and love, that he did not think he had enough strength to hold our perfect God-given Gift.  He said that it took all he had not to fall on his knees.
We loaded our sweet Copeland in the car and prayed over him.  First, we thanked God for His love and for creating this perfect boy for us.  We praised Him for all that we had been given and dedicated ourselves to raising Copeland in the knowledge of God and of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The finalization of Copeland's adoption was on April 8, 2003.  On that day, our Gift legally became Copeland Shane Barnett, OUR son and David and I legally became his father and mother.  (In our hearts, he had become our son the moment we received that simple phone call in April 2002!)
